DISTRIBUTION AND HABITAT
Central and east Africa. Guereza is arboreal. It occupies a wide range of forest types, often common in secondary or degraded forest.
BEHAVIOUR
These are daytimes animals. They live in groups of 2-10 adults include a dominant male, several females and their offspring. Guereza is well known for its impressive vocal behavioure. They use loud and low-pitched roars, uses body postures and facial expressions to communicate.
DIET
They are folivorous. Their diet consists mainly of leaves sometimes fruits.
REPRODUCTION
This species is polygynous, male pairs with mulitple females in his territory. Female give birth to a single infant. Pregnancy lasts up to 170 days. Infants are born with pink skin and white fur, which darkens to the adult coloration by three to four months.
GOOD TO KNOW
Guereza has only four fingers – has no thumbs, so it makes it faster to move in the treetops. Guereza are killed for their skins, which are used in traditional ceremonies and worn as ornaments by various African tribes.
