DISTRIBUTION AND HABITAT
Southern America. Swamps nearby water reservoirs.
BEHAVIOUR
Terrestial – aquatic animal, active mostly at dusk. Lives in groups that consist of 10-30 individuals. Capybara is great swimmer, it is capable to stay under water up to 5 min.
DIET
Grasses, coastal and water plants, bark of young tress.
REPRODUCTION
Reaches sexual maturity by 15 months. Reproducts through whole year, peak of it falls on the beginig of the rainy season. Pregnancy lasts from 150 to 165 days. In one breed from 2 to 8 are born, that short time after birth they are capable to walk.
GOOD TO KNOW
Capybara is the largest living rodent in the world today. It can reach a body mass of up to 66kg!
