DISTRIBUTION AND HABITAT
North America. Introduced and invasive in Australia, Asia and Europe. It inhabits all water reservoirs. It prefers dense low vegetation and also feeds in agricultural areas.
BEHAVIOUR
This goose has few natural enemies. It adapts perfectly to new conditions. It tolerates the presence of humans in its surroundings. It is intelligent and has a great memory. It capable of recognizing and memorizing people.
DIET
All plants, but also invertebrates, insects and fish.
REPRODUCTION
Barnacles are caring and persistent parents. Only in exceptional circumstances do they abandon the nest or lose their chicks. They are large, fertile, aggressive and therefore able to displace other species of geese from their territories.
GOOD TO KNOW
They can cover 2400 km in just 24 hours with a favorable wind, but typically travel at a much more leisurely rate.
