DISTRIBUTION AND HABITAT
Lives in Texas, United States, and in Mexico. It prefers shrubland, deserts, and rocky areas.
BEHAVIOUR
It is a solitary animal, primarily active during the day. This lizard is excellent at climbing stone walls.
DIET
Blue Spiny Lizard is an excellent hunter. It primarily feeds on flying insects and spiders, but also consumes flowers.
REPRODUCTION
It is a live bearing species. After a two-month gestation period, females give birth to 6–18 small lizards. Baby lizards are about 2″ in length. In the wild, it lives for approximately 3 to 4 years.
GOOD TO KNOW
It has a distinctive pattern on its back just behind the neck, consisting of a large black collar with white spots along its edges. The throat and belly are bluish in color, while part of the back and the tail are covered with sharp scales.
