DISTRIBUTION AND HABITAT

Inhabits tropical forests of South America.

BEHAVIOUR

Lives in flocks or in pairs. Pairs usually mate for life. Grooming and feeding the partner the partner sustain the bond between birds.

DIET

Their diet consists of fruits, berries, nuts and seeds. Using their beak they are capable of opening the hardest shells.

REPRODUCTION

They breed about every 1 to 2 years. Nests are found high up in tall trees in cavities already made by other animals. Females lay 2 to 3 eggs and incubate
them for 24 to 28 days. Within 3 months fledglings become independent.

The colour of striped face changes when the bird gets excited.
