DISTRIBUTION AND HABITAT
Philippine Spotted Deer is found only on the woodland on Panay, Negros, Cebu islands, which are located in the central Philippines.
BEHAVIOUR
They usually live in small groups of three to five individuals. They are most active at dusk and in the night. Height of a mature deer is around 75 to 80 cm, female are much smaller than the males. Lifespan: up to 17 years.
DIET
They feed on a variety of different types of grasses, leaves, and buds.
REPRODUCTION
Gestation averages last 240 days, they give birth to a single calf. At first 6 months of life calf are dependent on their mother’s milk. Young reeves’s muntjac become independent after 12 months of age.
GOOD TO KNOW
This species is one of the rarest mammals in the world. Their wild population is in danger from intensive hunting and extensive deforestation.
