DISTRIBUTION AND HABITAT

West and central Africa. They are typically found in grass savanna, dry and dense woodlands with tall grass, and on grass steppe.

BEHAVIOUR

They lives in single-male groups of 13-56 individuals. Patas can climb trees when alarmed, it usually use its speed on the ground to escape. Patas monkeys are diurnal. Body weight of an adult individual: males from 7 to 13 kg, females from 4 to 7 kg. Lifespan: up to 24 years, in the wild reach 21 years

DIET

Patas monkeys are omnivorous. Their diet consists mainly of fruits and insects but also includes leaves, roots, and bird eggs.

REPRODUCTION

This species is polygynous, male pairs with mulitple females in his group. Pregnancy lasts up to 170 days. Female give birth to a single infant. All females in group nurse and care for their young until they become independent, nursing period last for several months.

GOOD TO KNOW

Patas monkey are killed for their meat and used as a research animal.
Patas reach speeds of up to 55 km/h while running.
