DISTRIBUTION AND HABITAT
Bearded Barbets are found in western and central Africa in dry, wooded grasslands arid areas of savanna, shrublands and forests.
BEHAVIOUR
It is a non-migratory bird. The Bearded Barbet is found in areas with plentiful fig trees. It will enter gardens for fruit. It forms social groups of 4-5 birds
and pairs or groups roost together in a tree cavity.
DIET
Fruits, berries, buds, flowers, nectar, and insects. Chicks are fed insects. Their favourite friut is fig.
REPRODUCTION
Courtship include the offering of food, vocalizations, and nest log drilling. Barbets usually dig their nest holes in dead trees. They lay two white eggs.
GOOD TO KNOW
This species is zygodactylous which means having two toes pointing forward, and two toes pointing backward.
