Southeast Africa. Savannahs with trees, grasslands.


It lives in small herds. The group structure changes depending on the access for food. In the rainy season, it moves to wooded areas, during the dry season, they obtain food in the savannah. Most active in the morning and evening hours.


Grasses, herbs, leaves. It eats species of herbaceous plants growing on termite mounds. It replenishes mineral deficiencies by using natural salt licks, sometimes chewing bones.


Gestation: 9 months. The female gives birth to 1 young, most often at the end of the rainy season, when more food is provided. During the first few weeks, the calves are hidden among the tall grasses.


Antelope horns grow up to about 8 years of age and can reach a length of more than 1.5 m, in females about 1 m. Due to such large horns and combat abilities, adult individuals are rarely attacked by predators.
