DISTRIBUTION AND HABITAT
This species is found only in Southeast Asia in Laos, Vietnam, and Southern China.
BEHAVIOUR
They are arboreal and live mainly in treetops, they use their arms to locomotion to swing from tree to tree (brachiation). This animals have a upright posture, long forelimbs and hindlimbs, they do not have tails. Males are black, and they have white patches on their cheeks. Females have cream color of fur.
DIET
Their diet consists mainly of leaves and fruits.
REPRODUCTION
Females reach maturity at 6-7 years old, they give birth one offspring at a time. Pregnancy lasts up to 7 months. All infants are born with cream-colored fur, after two years of age their fur changes colour from cream to black. Females revert to a cream colour around the time of sexual maturity. An offspring becomes independent at 6-7 years of age.
GOOD TO KNOW
They communicate through an unusual singing that can be heard from long distances. These sounds serve as warning, defensive, informative, but also mating rituals.
